The teams dealt with a venue change, strong winds, and rough water, but the CGA and Wesleyan men's rowing teams were able to race on the Thames River on what has become our "upriver" course which runs parallel to the last mile of the Yale Harvard course.
The racing started with the 1V at 0915, then the 2V and 0945 and the 3V at 1015. All crews had to deal with a strong westerly wind and a fair amount of chop that increased through the morning.
The 1V came off the line clean, but while rowing well, were not able to keep up with the powerful, higher stroking Wesleyan crew. The 2V and 3V, both made up of all 3/c and 4/c rowers except for our 2V coxswain 1/c Milo Bertrand, struggled against far more experienced Wesleyan crews. Several of the rowers in the 3V have only weeks of rowing experience and we have talked often about building toward the New England Championships, each race getting better, and keeping a positive attitude as we race through a very difficult schedule.
Up next is a very competitive weekend at Tuft University's home course in Malden with Trinity, William, and Tufts. The weekend includes the Fred Emerson Cup which will be awarded to the winner of the 1V matchup between CGA and Trinity
