NEW LONDON, Conn. - Women's Lacrosse hosted Merchant Marine in a major rivalry match-up, getting a point in the Superintendents' Trophy standings as they took down the Mariners with a final score of 16-3.
It was an offensive affair from the very beginning for the Bears, easily going up three goals in the first quarter alone.
Aislinn Murray put up the first goal of the game with three and a half to go in the opening 15.
Mia Becker scored eight seconds later, followed by
Abby McAllister a little over a minute after.
The second quarter, CGA continued to add to the lead with five more goals, going up eight heading into the break and shutting out MMA for the entire first half.
Entering the back half of the game,
Caitlyn Coates gave the Bears their ninth goal. The Mariners finally got on the board in the third, but the Bears went on to push the lead to as much as 12.
Merchant Marine added another, making Coast Guard's lead, 13-2, heading into the final 15.
In the final quarter, the Bears saw their largest lead of the game at 14 with just over five minutes to go. Coast Guard closed out the game with a commanding 16-3 victory.
Addy Bass led all both teams in scoring with four.
Laine Weber recorded three goals, followed by Abby McCallister with two.
Sarah Skurat led both teams in assists with three, followed by McCallister with two.
Mia Becker led in draw controls with six.
Coast Guard will next play at Johnson and Whales on March 6th at 5 PM.
