Bears drop heartbreaker to Lesley

Coast Guard baseball lost 7-6 to Lesley to close out their spring trip to Myrtle Beach. They will go back home with a record of 4-2.

The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Lesley when Nate Stafford grounded out to score Jack Steel in the 1st. Lesley evened the score in the 2nd but CGA capitalized on two errors, a walk, and a hit by pitch from Lesley to make the score 4-1. In the 4th, freshman Nate Stafford notched his second RBI on the day with his first career collegiate home run. The score remained 5-1 until the top of the 7th when Lesley's two hitter Owen Kalagher hit a three run homer over the left field fence to cut the Bears lead to just one.

In the top of the 8th, Lesley threatened once again and appeared as if they were going to score when Kalagher hit a 1-1 pitch hard up the middle but junior 2nd baseman Wyatt Duthu made a diving play to his backhand side and threw out the runner at 1st to end the inning. In the bottom half of the inning Coast Guard was in desperate need of insurance runs and they got one from the bat of Parker Madden. The junior from Ruston, Louisiana hit his second clutch 8th inning home run in as many days when he sent a first-pitch fastball just over the left field fence.

Ultimately, Coast Guard was unable to hold the lead. Free bases gifted from walks, hit by pitches, and a balk allowed the Lynx to tie the game and then a Caden Shott sacrifice fly to right field gave them the lead and in the bottom of the inning, the Bears went down 1-2-3 to Lesley closer Dylan Langham.

Coast Guard will look to come home and bounce back from their back to back one run losses. They have their first home games this Sunday vs Norwich University at 1 & 4 PM.
