The men's swimming and diving team concluded their 2023-24 regular season with a home win against Clark University. The win resulted in an 8-2 season and was highlighted by a celebratory moment for the graduating class of five seniors.
Captains
Jake Kim and Alex Smigal were joined by classmates
Jeremy Dryer, Tommy Little and
Colby Loveless in a recognition ceremony presided over by the Academy Superintendent, Admiral Johnston, the Assistant Superintendent Captain Van Camp and Athletics Director Dr. Rose.
The senior class had a significant impact in the contest.
Jake Kim and
Colby Loveless finished in first and second place in the 50 freestyle in 22.06 and 22.39 respectively. Smigal and Dryer continued the 1-2 finish order in both the 200 and 500 freestyles. Smigal won both events in 1:52.42 and 5:10.39 respectively. Dryer following closely behind in 1:53.88 and 5:12.45. Tommy Little finished in second in the 1000 free in 10:45.93.
The seniors were joined by a collective effort from their teammates in a series of individual wins. Junior diver,
Drew Harris, was able to finish first on both the 1 meter (174.75) and 3 meter boards (158.17). Classmate
Brandon Chhoeung won the 1000 free in 10:21.50. Fellow junior,
Colin Twiss, won the 100 free in 47.14.
Sean Lyman joined his classmates with a win in the 200 backstroke (1:54.23).
Sophomores
Gabe McCallen and
Charles Gaines added their own wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. McCallen finished in 55.37, and Gaines in 53.06. First year Bears
Eliot Maravich and
Jordan Jansen finished in first and second in the 200 butterfly, with Maravich touching out Jansen 2:03.77 to 2:03.89.
Noah Reice won the 100 breaststroke in 58.51 and classmate
John Kaleta finished the 200 breaststroke with the fastest time in 2:13.05.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore
Victor Parks, Kaleta, Gaines and Loveless won in 1:37.70, with Loveless anchoring in a quick 21.76 split.
The Bears are off from competition until NEWMAC championships on February 22-25, hosted by MIT.Â
