In a game that had five lead changes and 13 ties, Coast Guard was able to hang on to victory by a thread thanks to clutch free throw shooting. The Bears improve to 17-6(6-3 NEWMAC). With the loss, WPI falls back below .500 at 11-12(3-6 NEWMAC), they will next go on the road at Wellesley Wednesday at 7pm.Â
The game was tied after three quarters, and tied yet again with just 10 seconds remaining but
Dorothy Stotts; calm, cool, and collected drained both of her free throws to ice the game for the Bears. In a back and forth griddy battle, CGA held on in a key conference matchup to remain in 4th place.
The Bears were led in scoring by Senior guard and team captain
Kira Wood with 17.
Dorothy Stotts added 15 while going 3-3 from the line. The other scorer in double figures was junior forward
Glory Blethen who scored 10 points and led the team with eight rebounds, five assists, and 39 minutes played. Guards
Julia Mann and
Taylor Lynch each went 2-2 from long range to account for four of the Bears five made three pointers. Sophomore
Farrah Peterein had two key offensive rebounds with seven minutes remaining to allow Coast Guard to maintain possession and tie the score at 52, Peterein had five rebounds overall.
Coast Guard will next face Salve Regina at home on Wednesday February 14 at 6pm.
