WORCESTER, Mass. –

The Coast Guard Bears women's swim team started their season off by defeating each of their four opponents(WPI, Brandeis, Babson, and Smith) in their opening weekend quad meet.

CGA took home first place in two relay events, the 500 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle. The 500 meter freestyle team of Tailyn Schaufelberger, Megan Doubrava, Zoe Suhajda, and Liliana Feyk won their event with a time of 5:28.61. The victorious 400 meter freestyle team of Grace Keogh, Ellie Hiestand, Samantha Halvorson, and Mikayla Jolley won with a time of 3:40.80. 

Individually, six different Coast Guard swimmers won their events. Zoe Suhajda(1000 Freestyle), Madelyn Paxton(100 Backstroke and 100 IM), Tailyn Schaufelberger(100 Breaststroke), Ellie Hiestand(200 Breaststroke), and Samantha Halvorson(50 Yard Free) each swam their way to first place finishes. 

The Bears also had an outstanding showing of top five finishers in the evening. Jaida Lippy finished 3rd in the 1000 freestyle. Isabel Robey(3rd, 100 backstroke), Ellie Hiestand & Mikayla Jolley(2nd & 5th, 100 breaststroke), Isabel Robey, Colleen Read, and Megan Doubrava(3rd, 4th, and 5th, 200 IM), Tessa Breitbart(4th, 200 breaststroke), Kathleen O'Shea(2nd, 50 yard freestyle), Liliana Feyk(4th, 200 freestyle), Megan Doubrava, Colleen Read, & Tessa Breitbart(2nd, 3rd, & 4th, 200 butterfly), Grace Keogh, Kathleen O'Shea, & Morgan Moore(2nd, 3rd, & 4th, 100 yard freestyle), Colleen Read & Isabel Robey(2nd & 3rd 200 backstroke), Madelyn Paxton & Grace Keogh(2nd & 4th, 100 butterfly). 

After their impressive showing this weekend, Coast Guard will host Wheaton College for their first home meet of the year on Friday November 8th at 5:00 PM.
