WORCESTER, Mass. --
The men's team finished up their fall campaign with the Wormtown Chase on Lake Quinsigimond in Worcester Saturday. The team raced three eights and a four on a new Wormtown Course that followed up the west side of Lake Quinsigimond on a sunny, but breezy morning.
In the collegiate event, Coast Guard placed sixth and fourteenth out of 26 boats. In a race dominated by Holy Cross, Coast Guard's varsity eight was defeated by only one D3 team, Wesleyan – last year's national champion. The second varsity also had a strong showing and was able to beat several competitors first varsity boats.
In the novice eight event Coast Guard finish second. That is the second medal in two races for this novice eight. This will be the last race for the novice eight as they will be integrated into the varsity team, and the team will row a straight progression of three eights for the spring (and maybe a four or forth eight). The team is looking forward to the competition for seats these fired up novices will provide.
The last race of the was a novice four event in which four of our experienced novice rowers had a strong row and were able to secure a victory despite a substantial headwind.
Our attention now turns to "Limited Threshold Testing" and then the athletes are on their own to maintain their gains through the winter. Our next official practice will be in February and then we will be off to Clemson for our spring break trip in early March.
Coach Randall noted, "It has been a strong fall, and we are looking forward to an even better spring!"
