Late Goal From Salve Regina Results in 1-1 Tie for Men's Soccer

NEW LONDON, Conn. - In a road contest at Salve Regina, Jude Sargent netted his third goal of the season in the 29th minute of the match, to put the Bears ahead 1-0 at halftime. However, the Seahawks equalized with a goal in the 84th minute, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.

With this win, the Bears record now sits at 10-3-2 while the Seahawks move to 7-7-2. Up next for Salve is a home game on Saturday when they will take on Emerson at 5:30 p.m.

Coast Guard came out strong, launching three shots within the first ten minutes of the contest. The Bears maintained their offensive pressure as the half progressed, finally breaking through with a goal in the 29th minute. It was junior defender Aidan Miles set up senior captain Jude Sargent, who scored the goal to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

The remainder of the half featured 11 fouls, with five committed by the Seahawks and six by the Bears. However, neither team was able to capitalize on these opportunities, and the score remained 1-0 as the teams headed into halftime.

The second half continued with numerous fouls and several solid scoring opportunities for both teams. In the 84th minute, junior goalie John Putnam made a crucial save to preserve the lead for the Bears, but just moments later, the Seahawks tied it up, making it 1-1.

That late goal would stand as the game's final score, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Bears return to action this Saturday, facing WPI on Nitchman Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
