Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Coast Guard Starts Hot, Secures 2-0 Win Against Clark

NEW LONDON, Conn. - This afternoon, Coast Guard Men's Soccer defeated Clark University by a score of 2-0, with both goals coming in the first 14 minutes of the contest.

With this win, the Bears record now sits at 9-2-1 while the Cougars move to 4-4-5. Up next for Clark is a home game next Saturday when they will take on Salve Regina at 1:00 p.m.

The Bears came out flying in this one, with sophomore Naveen Jayaram getting on the board first in the 10th minute. That goal was a result of some great ball movement, with sophomore Jake Fish and junior Aki Freeman both picking up assists.

It took just three minutes for the Bears to strike again, with the goal this time being scored by sophomore midfielder Andres Villasena after he made an extremely skilled move to beat the defense.

Both teams played solid defense for the remainder of the half and Coast Guard went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The second half was a defensive clinic for the Bears, who only allowed two shots the entire period despite the Cougars being in an attack heavy formation. Even though the Bears weren't able to score, they had multiple good attacks and a total of eight shots in the second half.

As the final buzzer sounded the scoreboard read the same as it did at the end of the first half, and Coast Guard picked up their second consecutive win. Junior goalie John Putnam picked up the clean sheet for the Bears, finishing the game with six saves.

The Bears return to action this Tuesday, facing off against their in-state rival, Connecticut College, at home. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Nitchman Field.
