WORCESTER, Mass. – Men's basketball came up just short in a tight battle with first place WPI. The Engineers jumped out to an early lead in the 1st on their senior day and despite excellent play from CGA, it was too much to come back from. WPI, now 17-3 (10-1 NEWMAC) will play at Emerson Wednesday January 31st.
Coast Guard's comeback effort was led by Sophomore guard Mitch Shettles. Shettles shot the lights out going 5-6 from beyond the arc and 80% from the field for 21 points.
Junior Ben Yagey added 15 points, shooting 3-4 from three with two steals. Fellow junior guard Declan Rooney was the only other Bear in double figures with 10 points in his team high 36 minutes played. Rooney also led the team with seven rebounds. Junior center Bryce VanderWiere made the most of his time on the floor coming down with three rebounds.
With the loss the Bears fall to 11-8 (4-6 NEWMAC). The men will look to snap their three game losing streak this Wednesday January 31st with a home game vs Clark University.
