NEW LONDON, Conn - The Men's Swimming and Diving team got back on track with a home win against Montclair State University in a final score of 161-128. The Bears improved to 7-2 on the season with the win.
The Bears spread out event wins amidst a balanced line up and was bookended with wins in both relays.
They started with a win in the 200 medley relay with first year Cole Carden, classmate John Kaleta, Sophomore Charles Gaines and first year Noah Reice finishing in 1:36.85. The 200 freestyle relay team of captain Jake Kim, junior Colin Twiss, Reice, and Gaines bested the field in 1:26.77.
Twiss would continue his winning ways with victories in the 200 freestyle (1:41.32) and a win in a rare chance to swim a shorter event, the 50 freestyle in 21.78.
Reice would return to win the 100 freestyle in 46.85, marking a recent successful run in that event. Fellow first year Jordan Jansen swam to his first collegiate win in the 1000 freestyle in 10:03.91. Classmate Blaise Minckler also chipped in with a win in the 200 butterfly in 1:58.41, as well as the fastest time in the 200 Individual Medley (1:58.37).
Gaines would return to win the 100 butterfly in 52.16 with a strong second half of the event leading to the win. Kaleta would outpace the field in the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.12.
Junior All-America Honorable Mention, Sean Lyman would show off his versatility in two wins of his own, winning the 100 backstroke (52.92) and the 500 freestyle with a strong 4:44.51.
The Bears will have two weeks to prepare for the final meet of the season against Clark University on Senior Day February 3 at 2:00 pm.
