KINGS POINT, NY - Last night, Coast Guard Men's Soccer tied it up 1-1 with non-conference rival Merchant Marine after leading most of the game.
The Bears have beat the Mariners in their last five match-ups. This was the first draw against the Mariners since a 0-0 tie in 2016. Both teams left this game with the same record of 0-2-1.
In the first 45 minutes of the game, the Bears out-shot the Mariners 9-7. Coast Guard got on the scoreboard first after
Charles Fish scored his first goal of the season at the 24:29 mark of the first half off a penalty kick.
At the half, the Bears still led 1-0. Two minutes into the second half, tensions were running high and Kings Points' Tyson Mallas received a red card. The Mariners had to play a man down the rest of the second.
The Bears were able to hold off the Mariners all the way until 71:42 into the game when John Germain scored off of a penalty shot.
Neither team could seem to find the back of the net and a hard fight from both teams would end in a 1-1 tie.
The Bears will end their time on the road and face University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth at home, this Tuesday, Sept. 12th at 6 PM.
