NEW LONDON, Conn. - Bears Volleyball hosted WPI, sweeping the Engineers in three sets and securing its 12th win of the season.
Set one was the closest of the three, ending with a score of 25-20. The Bears got things started by scoring the first two points of the set. For a brief time, the Engineers jumped out in front. It didn't last long, however, as CGA regained the lead at the 9th point and held all the way to the end of the set.
Set two was a larger margin as Coast Guard took the win, 25-14. This time, the Bears scored the first three straight points and never gave up the lead on the way to leading the Engineers two sets to none heading into the third.
Set three had the same scored as the previous, CGA winning, 25-14. It also mirrored the second, as the Bears put up the first three points and led for the entirety of the set, ultimately sweeping the Engineers.
Shannon Shaw led the Bears with nine kills, followed by
Allie Wildsmith with eight and
Sophia Galdamez with six.
Sarah Somer led the team with three blocks, with
Elizabeth Atkinson getting two.
Kaela France recorded 17 digs.
Maeve Duffin led in aces with four and assists with 17.
CGA now stands at 12-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference.
Coast Guard will host Wellesley on October 3rd at 7 PM.
