Springfield, Mass. - Coast Guard Football started New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play this weekend, losing to Springfield College on the road, 63-14.
Despite the Bears forcing a fumble on Springfield's opening drive, the Pride would score on their next drive. This would be the only score both ways in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, The Pride would score four-straight touchdowns.
Joey Armentrout would hit
Chase Politte for a 16-yard touchdown and give the Bears their first points of the game. The Pride led 35-7 going into halftime.
CGA wouldn't score again until 10:20 left in the game.
Dennis O'Shea would rush for one yard and
Brennan Holt would make the extra point for a score of 56-14.
About a minute later, Springfield would put the nail in the coffin scoring once more, topping CGA 63-14, in the first NEWMAC game of the season for both teams.
Armentrout threw 20 completed passes for 271 yards, James Wheeler rushed for 55 yards in seven attempts, and
Broock Desta went 108 yards in just six receptions.
Coast Guard Football now stands at 2-2, and 0-1 in conference. They will look to redeem themselves this Saturday, Sept. 30th at 1:30 PM as they face off against MIT.
