Bears Take Down Nichols At Home

Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - Bears Football had its second home game of the season, taking down Nichols with a final score of 49-42.

The first half was all Coast Guard as they kept Nichols off the board until just before halftime. On offense, CGA put up 28 points in the first 30 minutes of play.

The Bears' first possession ended with a 23-yard touchdown by Ezra Tetreault. The drive was only four plays and three minutes. Less than 30 seconds left in the first quarter, a 24-yard rush by Harrison Hensley, and made extra point by Brennan Holt, gave CGA a 14-0 lead. In the second quarter, Joey Armentrout passed to Broock Desta for a 29-yard touchdown. The drive took eight plays and three and a half minutes to complete. The final scoring drive of the first half for the Bears came off an eight-yard rush by Amr Baadani.

Nichols did not get its first points until just over two minutes left in the first half. Going into halftime, Coast Guard was leading, 28-7.

Coast Guard received coming out of the break and despite not scoring on the first drive and Nichols cutting the lead, CGA brought its lead back to 21 on its second drive. Armentrout kept the ball and rushed for one to find the end zone.

The Bison kept trying to cut the lead, getting within seven a few times in the second half, but the hot offense of the Bears wasn't letting up. When Nichols was getting close, Coast Guard answered right back. In the fourth quarter, CGA scored for what would be the final time, after a Harrison Hensley 31-yard rushing TD.

Nichols would score one more time with just 22 seconds to go in the game. Coast Guard ultimately took the win, its second in a row, and now has a record of 2-1.

Holt made all all six extra points, giving Coast Guard six of the 42. Armentrout threw for 331 yards, had two passing TDs and two rushing. Hensley rushed for 164 and had two touchdowns, while Desta had 103 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Coast Guard will go on the road next week, beginning NEWMAC play. They will face off against Springfield at 3:30 PM.
