KINGS POINT, New York - Women's Soccer opened up the season on a high after taking down rival Merchant Marine, 4-1. 

The Bears came out looking to be the first on the board as they got seven shots off in the first 38 minutes and thirty seconds of the game. Five seconds later, shot number eight was the rewarding one as Mia Forti found the back of the net, with the assist coming from Karagan Bulger. 

Coast Guard was able to hold of Merchant Marine for the entirety of the first half. 

Not long after the start of the second half, MMA tied it up. However, it didn't last long as CGA scored five and a half minutes later off a goal by Riley Vicinanzo, assisted by Lulu Vlases. Coast Guard wasn't done yet, adding two more by the end of the game. Vlases scored with Bulger getting her second assist to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute. The final goal of the game came from Sidney Palinkas, assisted by Vicinanzo.

At goalie for the Bears, Emily Scharnitzky recorded five saves while only allowing one goal.

Next up for Coast Guard, they will stay on the road to face UMass Boston on September 5th at 7 PM.
