Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Softball was on the road facing Smith in the first set of games of conference play for the season, splitting the day by falling in game one and taking game two.
In game one, the Bears struggled to make contact as they only had five hits and weren't able to put any runs on the board. In the top of the first Mariah Dewey was able to single left, getting on base. However, she would not be able to come in to score. Two more runners were able to get aboard in the top of the third, but were stranded. CGA's best shot at scoring came in the top of the sixth Jenna Lewandowki tried to take home off a hit by Isabelle Shroyer, but was called out.
Coast Guard ultimately fell in game one, 4-0.
In game two, the Bears struck first on the top of the second off a sacrafice fly by Julia Breidenthal that scored Lillia Farlow. Then, in the top of the fourth, Selena Serna hit shot a homer to extend CGA's lead to 2-0.
Smith put up its first runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth, taking the lead, 4-2. However, the Bears answered back in the top half of the fifth with four runs of their own.
Emma Behel scored off a wild pitch, Breidenthal hit another sac fly to score Christine Carey, Veronica Krystofik singled to score Lewandowki and Natalie beck singled to score Katie Becker.
Smith put one more up in the home half of the inning, but it wouldn't be enough as Coast Guard took the 6-5 win.
Farlow, Serna, Breidenthal and Beck all had two hits for game two. Breidenthal also had two RBIs. In the circle for the Bears, Dana Walker recorded eight strikeouts.
Coast Guard will take on Mass.-Dartmouth on April 5th in a doubleheader beginning at 3 PM.
