Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Today, Coast Guard Softball played a doubleheader against Albertus Magnus, taking the first game, 5-3 and the second game, 12-4.
In game one, the Bears found themselves down 2-0 after the first inning. CGA added one to the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, after Emma Behel was hit by a pitch advancing Lillia Farlow to score.
Bears were able to hold the Falcons in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, Farlow doubled to score teammate Mariah Dewey and tie it up, 2-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Natalie Becker hit a two-run double, and Bears took the lead. In the same inning, Dewey doubled and hit in Becker.
In the final inning, the Falcons would only be able to add one more to the board. Bears would take game one for a final score of 5-3.
Isabelle Shroyer threw 90 strikes out of 137 pitches in seven innings pitched. Selena Serna went two for two at the plate and Farlow went two for three.
In game two, the Falcons got one up on the Bears in the top of the second. Bears answered right back in the bottom of the second, scoring five, for a score of 5-1.
Albertus scored three in the third off a couple Coast Guard errors. But, Coast Guard came right back at Albertus, scoring three more in the bottom of the third.
The Bears held the Falcons in the top of the fourth and added one more for a 9-4 score heading into the top of the fifth.
Coast Guard held Albertus to another no score inning again in the top of the fifth. Then the Bears added two more to their lead for a score of 11-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Julia Breidenthal hit an RBI to run-rule Albertus, for a final game score of 12-4.
Breidenthal was the only player on both teams that had four hits for four at bats in game two. Christine Carey went four for five and Katie Becker went three for four.
In the circle for the Bears, Dana Walker had three strikeouts and only allowed four hits.
The Bears will be back in action on their home field, next Wednesday at 3 PM and 5 PM against Wesleyan.
