NEW LONDON, Conn. - Women's Basketball hosted Merchant Marine in a Monday night battle, handing the Mariners their first loss of the season with a final score of 78-56.
The Bears got the scoring going with seven straight points to open the game. CGA's defense didn't allow MMA to get on the board until over two minutes into the first quarter. For the entire first 10 minutes, the Bears held the lead and outscored the Mariners, 19-14.
Coast Guard only gave up the lead once, which came in the second half. It didn't last long as the Bears got back in front and held the lead for the remainder of the game. Heading into the break, CGA was up, 36-30.
The second half was a complete Coast Guard show as they ran away with the lead. The Bears didn't even allow the Mariners to break double digits in the third quarter, outscoring them, 26-9.
In the last 10 minutes, the Bears really pulled out in front, leading by as much as 27 at one point. While Merchant Marine outscored Coast Guard in the fourth, CGA was ahead by too much for redemption, taking the win, 78-56.
Dorothy Stotts led all scorers with 24, followed by
Julia Mann with 14.
Glory Blethen led in rebounds with nine and blocks with four, and tied with Taylor Lynn in rebounds with seven. Mann and Stotts recorded eight and five rebounds, respectively.Â
Coast Guard will be at Conn. College on December 6th at 5 PM.
