WENHAM, Mass. - Women's Basketball was on the road for its season opener, taking down Gordon with a final score of 71-62.
The first 10 minutes for the Bears set the tone for the game. Coast Guard outscored Gordon 26-11 in quarter one. Within the first 10 seconds of the game,
Kira Wood splashed a three to give the Bears the early 3-0 lead. CGA didn't allow its opponent to score until nearly two minutes into the game. Coast Guard did trail at one point, but quickly regained the lead and never gave it up for the remainder of the game.
Despite Gordon making the first points of the second quarter, Coast Guard still managed to have a lead by as much as 18. Heading into the break, CGA was up, 39-30.
Wood got the back half of the game started the same as the first, by knocking down a three within 15 seconds. The last 20 minutes of the game was all CGA as they continued to score and the defense held strong.
Wood led all scorers with 20, while
Glory Blethen had 17. Blethen also recorded three blocks, followed by
Taylor Lynch and
Mackenzie Hilden with two each.
Kelly Hagerty had 10 rebounds for the Bears and
Julia Mann had two steals. As a team, CGA had 20 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers and four fast break points.Â
Coast Guard will stay on the road to take on Endicott on November 10th at 6 PM.
