Women's Basketball Falls to Trinity in First Loss of the Season

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Tonight, Coast Guard Women's Basketball faced the Trinity College Bantams in a non-conference match up, falling 53-36.

Coast Guard took the lead first, but Trinity would answer right back. After the first quarter Bears trailed by 11.

However, in the second, Coast Guard fought and came back from an 11-point deficit. A Dorothy Stotts three assisted by Kira Wood would give the Bears the 25-23 lead with just 1:42 left in the second quarter.

The Bantams led 27-25 at the half. Despite being down, the Bears made 4/12 of their three-point shots while the Bantams were 0/8 from behind the three-point line after the first 20 minutes. In the first half, there was one tie and three lead changes.

In the third, the game was neck and neck. Stotts made a jump shot at 2:25 to give the Bears the lead back for a score of 36-35. Then, a Samantha Slofkiss free throw would tie the score right back up, ending the third quarter 36-36. 

In the fourth, the Bantams started to pull ahead, and the Bears were forced to take a timeout at 3:06 left to play. Trinity led 53-36 with just two minutes left in the fourth. 

The Bears would not be able to overcome the deficit and would fall 53-38, their first loss of the season.

Stotts led with 14 points. Glory Blethen finished with 9 points and seven rebounds. Coast Guard falls to 4-1 and Trinity improves to 4-0.

Coast Guard will look to redeem themselves at home next Wednesday, November 29th at 5:30 PM.
