Volleyball Falls to Springfield in Semifinals

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After defeating Clark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Quarterfinals (NEWMAC), Bears Volleyball took on Springfield in the Semis, falling in four sets. 

The Bears were the fourth ranked team, while the Pride were ranked number one. 

Each set was a battle until the ending, with no team winning as set by more than five points.

Set one went to CGA with a final of 25-21. Despite falling behind by five early on in the set, Coast Guard rallied to tie it up at 10. There were five more ties in the first as CGA went on a nine point scoring run that led them to take the win. 

The second set was the largest victory by a team, as the Bears fell, 25-20. CGA was behind in the beginning, before tying it up at eight and taking the lead at nine. They held the lead through 16 until Springfield went on an eight point scoring run. The Bears attempted a comeback with four straight points, but it was not enough. 

Into the third set, Coast Guard unable to grab a lead. However, there were two ties and they never trailed by more than five. CGA ultimately dropped set three, 25-22.

The final set of the match saw 12 ties. Springfield got the scoring going before Coast Guard quickly caught up. The Pride had a six point scoring run while the Bears had two four point runs. In the back half of the set, the teams were tied up at 20 in the race to 25. CGA had two straight points taking a 22-20 lead. However, SC put up three straight to take a one point lead. The Bears tied it up at 23 but it would be their last point of the match as the Pride took the win. 

Shannon Shaw and Allie Wildsmith led the Bears in kills with 12, followed by Sophia Galdamez with nine. Maeve Duffin led all players in assists with 40. Kaela France recorded 24 digs, while Elizabeth Atkinson and Wildsmith had four blocks, followed by Carlee Lingle with three. 

Bears Volleyball ends the season with an overall recorded of 20-9 and a conference record of 7-4.
