CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - This evening, Men's Soccer traveled to MIT to face off in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) quarterfinal, dropping the Engineers 4-1.
Within the first 6:48 seconds of the game,
Jude Sargent scored the first goal of the night and was assisted by
Charles Fish, to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.
In the first half alone, MIT got 10 shots off against the Bears, but were not able to connect on any in the first 45.
The Bears went into the second half leading 1-0. Then just two minutes and thirty-five seconds into the second half,
Michael O'Brien made his first goal of the season and was assisted by C. Fish to give the Bears a 2-0 lead over the Engineers.
Just five minutes later, Coast Guard extended their lead to three from an
Andres Villasana goal assisted by O'Brien.
At 56:30 into the game, Sargent scored his second goal of the night and was once again assisted by C. Fish. The Bears would go up 4-0 on the Engineers.
The Engineers would not be able to score until there was just 7:23 left in the game. However, this would be their only goal of the night and they would ultimately fall 4-1 to the Bears.
Coast Guard out shot MIT five to four in the second half.
Wolfgang Pfleghar would finish with three saves on the night.
The Bears will continue in postseason play and face WPI in the semifinals at 6 PM this Thursday in Worcester, MA.
