KINGSTON, R.I. - The Men's Swimming and Diving opened the 2023-24 campaign with a win against NEWMAC member Springfield College. The men won all but two events against the Pride with some strong performances by both first-year cadets and veteran athletes, and a score of 198-87.
The men started out strong with a win in the 400 medley relay and the team of first years Cole Carden, John Kaleta, and Noah Reice, and returning junior Colin Twiss in a time of 3:33.61. Junior Sean Lyman started his day with a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:01.47) and a later win in the 200 backstroke (2:00.44). Twiss would also post wins in the 200 freestyle (1:45.12), the 100 free (47.77) and the 500 free (4:48.62).
Kaleta would follow his relay leg with a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.97). Fellow first year Blaise Minckler would have an impressive start to his college career with three individual wins in the 200 butterfly (1:59.82), the 200 breaststroke (2:08.86) and the 200 IM (1:58.97). Junior Jake Kim would chip in with a win in the 50 free (21.70) and the anchor leg on the winning 200 free relay to close out the meet. First Year classmates Noah Reice and Cole Carden would post wins in the 100 butterfly (51.82) and 100 backstroke (54.72) respectively.
The Bears will travel for a four school match up on November 3rd, against host Worcester Polytechnic Insitute, Babson College, and Brandeis University.
