NEW LONDON, Conn. - Volleyball hosted Mitchell in one-of-two final regular season home games, taking down the Mariners in three sets.
Set one, the teams traded points in the beginning before Coast Guard ran away with the lead. After the Mariners hit their 8th point, the Bears only allowed them to get three more for the rest of the set. CGA went on a 10 point scoring run and lead by as much as 14 at one point. Coast Guard took set one, 25-11.
The second set was closer with the Bears struggling to bring the momentum from the first. They found themselves down by six in the beginning, clawing their way back to bring it within one in the middle of the set. From there, the match saw three ties before the Bears took the lead at 17. CGA remained ahead for the rest of the set, winning with a final of 25-19.
Leading two sets to none going into the third, the Bears were looking to end it. They took the first three straight points and held the lead until the match was tied at the 11th point. From there, it was close again as the teams battled for the lead. After a tie at the 17th point, the Bears took the lead and held it until the 25th point. CGA clinched the match after winning set three, 25-19.
Allie Wildsmith led the Bears in kills with 13, followed by
Shannon Shaw with 11.
Elizabeth Atkinson, Shaw and Wildsmith all recorded three blocks.
Maeve Duffin led both teams in assists with 29 and
Kaela France led in digs with 25.
Coast Guard will play again for its final home game of the regular season on October 31st at 7 PM, hosting Smith.
