NEW LONDON, Conn. – In the first ever volleyball SPARS game, Coast Guard hosted Salve Regina, taking down the Seahawks in three sets.
Despite the first few points being close in the first set, the Bears quickly control when they were leading by five after hitting the 10
th point. From then, CGA was leading by as much as 13 at one point and ultimately took the win, 25-13.
Set two was a closer battle. This time, CGA never led by more than four. There were six ties and two lead changes. At the 20
th point, the Bears and Seahawks were all tied up. It didn't last long as Coast Guard took the lead and never gave it up, securing the 25-19 win.
Set three started out close once again. In the first 10 points alone, there were six ties and five lead changes.
However, the Bears began to pull away little by little. The largest lead for CGA came at the 18
th, 19
th and 25
th points when they were ahead by seven. Coast Guard went on to secure the set, 25-18.
Leading for the Bears was
Shannon Shaw with 15 kills, followed by
Allie Wildsmith and
Sophia Galdamez with nine.
Maeve Duffin had 28 assists and
Kaela France had 22 digs.
Coast Guard will head to Mount Holyoke on October 24
th at 6 PM.
