Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Jarrett Henault threw a pair of touchdowns to Shane LaPorte leading University of New England 17-10 season opening win over host Coast Guard.
Henault had a 13-yard touchdown strike with 6:06 left in the first quarter and a 5-yard pass to LaPorte with 11:43 left in the second quarter as the Nor'Easters jumped out to a 17-0 lead.
Henault was 11 of 17 for 99 yards with the two touchdowns. Eugene Jordan led UNE with 15 carries for 63 yards. LaPorte had a team-high five catches for 47 yards and the two touchdowns.
Joey Armentrout was 19 of 39 for 275 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Spencer McMillion had 18 carries for 52 yards to lead the Bears on the ground.
Amr Baadani had five catches for a game-high 113 yards in his first career game for Coast Guard.
UNE had 271 yards of total offense, 172 rushing and 99 passing while the Bears had 344 total yards, 275 passing and 69 rushing.
Coast Guard would get in the board with 33 seconds left in the half on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Armentrout to cut the deficit to 17-7.
Finnegan Hall booted a 21-yard field goal with 10:31 left in the fourth to cut the deficit to 17-10.
UNE missed a 44-yard field goal with 2:46 left giving the Bears one last chance to pull even.
Armentrout hit Baadani for 38 yards on the first play to move the Bears to the UNE 35.
Coast Guard had a first down at the UNE 16, but would turn it over on downs at the 15 with 48 seconds left.
