NEW LONDON, Conn. – Myles Decoste win at #1 singles clinched the match as Coast Guard stunned MIT snapping the Engineers 29 match conference winning streak with a 5-4 win in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match moved indoors due to rain.
MIT had just lost one NEWMAC match in program history compiling a record of 148-1 since NEWMAC tennis began in 1999.
Coast Guard had a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Decoste and Sean Dreher won 8-3 at #1 singles and Lucas Arora and Charles Norman posted an 8-7 key win at #2 doubles.
In singles action, Banks Evans won 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles and Norman won 6-2, 6-1 at #2 singles as the Bears increased the lead to 4-1.
After a loss at #4 singles, Decoste finished off a 6-4, 6-4 win at #1 singles to clinch the match with a the 5-2 lead.
Coast Guard improves to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC while MIT drops to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
