Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Mass.— Junior Lexi Morris recorded a pair of hits and three RBI in each game to help Babson College sweep the visiting Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Beavers won the opener 7-4 before taking game two 11-3 in the six innings to improve to 24-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Coast Guard slips to 13-10 overall and 6-4 in the NEWMAC with the back-to-back losses on Saturday.
GAME ONE -- BABSON 7, COAST GUARD 4
Morris went 2-for-3, fAthena Hadjipanayis hit a three-run homer and Audrey Labouliere and Isabel Aguilar both doubled and scored twice to lead the offense. Moira O'Reilly struck out five and gave up four runs over seven innings to push her record to 14-2 on the year with the win.
Mariah Dewey went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Selena Serna singled twice and scored a run to pace the Bears' 11-hit attack. Sophomore Amanda Moore went the distance in the circle giving up just three earned runs and striking out four to drop to 8-3 on the season.
Labouliere raced home on a passed ball and Morris drove in Aguilar with a two-out single to right to give the hosts a 2-0 lead in the first. Morris drove in two more runs with a two-out double to right in the third and Hadjipanayis hit the first home run of her career, a three-run blast to left, in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Beavers' lead to 7-1.
Coast Guard, which got on the board thanks to a Julia Breidenthal double in the fourth, got a two-run single from Dewey and an RBI base hit from Christine Carey to pull within 7-4 in the top of the seventh before O'Reilly used a pop up and a strikeout to close out the win.
GAME TWO -- BABSON 11, COAST GUARD 3 (6 INNINGS)
Morris went 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two runs scored and three RBI to lead the Beavers' 12-hit attack. Junior Kate Karamouzis went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored, while Labouliere and sophomore Molly Hennessy both contributed a pair of hits and a run batted in in the win.
Dewey, who was 2-for-4, and Serna, who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, both hit solo homers for Coast Guard. Maggie Perez also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.
Down 1-0 in the second, Sara Moore and Labouliere produced back-to-back RBI singles to give the Green and White a 2-1 lead. Hennessy made it 3-1 with a one-out RBI knock in the third and the Beavers responded to Dewey's homer in the top of the fifth with a six-run uprising in the bottom of the frame.
Morris contributed an RBI single, Karamouzis drove in a pair of runs with her triple to center and Natoli drove in another run with a double to left before later scoring on an RBI ground out by Moore to give Babson a 9-2 advantage. Serna homered to left center in the top of the sixth but Morris answered with a two run blast to left that stayed just inside the foul pole to give the Beavers their eighth run-rule win of the season.
Senior Logan MacDonald improved to 8-2 on the year with the win for Babson giving up three runs in a complete-game effort.
