Box Score NORTON, Mass. -- The US Coast Guard Academy Men's Soccer team tied with New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Wheaton College (MA) in a game earlier this afternoon.
A slow start to the game was difficult to overcome, as the Bears were presented with limited opportunities to bury a goal throughout. They managed just two shots on goal and eight shots for the entirety of the contest. Similarly, the Wheaton Lyons were held at bay, managing just two shots on goal of their own.
Starting in his fifth game this season, goalkeeper Josh Hudson recorded another shut out with two second half saves to keep the Bears chances of a win alive. While the offensive production picked up, they could not manage the game-winner and settled for a 0–0 draw at the end of 90 minutes.
John Flood, Lucas Tabit, and Jude Sargent all had multiple opportunities, but only one of those were on target. Goalkeeper Cam Milllington successfully made two saves of his own in the second half, the latter coming on a Charles Fish scoring attempt.
With just two games left before a play-off push, head coach Chris Parsons knows their is more in his squad and is encouraged by the way they rebounded in the second half. He had this to say:
"After a disappointing first half, I thought the guys really came out and performed well. We will take a point on the road and know a win on Senior Day this Saturday will guarantee us a playoff spot."
The game Coach Parsons is referring to is a week out, but a critical NEWMAC match-up against Emerson to determine play-off seeding. Prior to that, the Bears can gain some momentum when they play UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday night, October 25th, 2022 on the road at 7pm EST.
At this juncture, every point counts. The Bears' record moves to 9-2-4 (2-2-2 NEWMAC) while Wheaton moves to 6-4-6 (1-2-3 NEWMAC).
