Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Springfield playing its first home game in 693 days opened the game by recovering its own onsides kick and never took its foot off the gas leading 27-0 after the first quarter and beat Coast Guard 60-0 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
The Pride scored on all eight of its first half possessions and led 47-0 at half while holding Coast Guard to just one yard in the half. Springfield had 328 first half yards (249 rushing).
Springfield (2-3, 1-0) led 27-0 after the first quarter as they started all four first quarter drives in Coast Guard territory.
The Pride finished with 548 total yards, 434 on the ground while holding Coast Guard to 42 yards and eight first downs.
Coast Guard quarterback Tafari Wall was 2 of 10 for seven yards with an interception before being replaced by freshman Joseph Armentrout in the second quarter.
Armentrout, making his collegiate debut, was 3 of 11 for 21 yards for the Bears (2-4, 0-2).
Tim Callahan scored a 1-yard run to cap the opening drive with 12:11 left.
The Bears mishandled a punt giving the Pride the ball at the Bear 16 and two plays later Patrick Ladas scored on a 1-yard run, following the missed PAT, the score was 13-0 with 8:54 left in the first.
Springfield added its third touchdown of the quarter, and it took just two plays again capped on a a 4-yard run by Callahan with 6:30 left to push the lead to 20-0.
The Pride pushed the lead to 27-0 on a 1-yard touchdown by Ladas with 1:29 left in the opening quarter.
Christian Hutra kicked a 34-yard field goal with 11:08 left in half following a Coast Guard interception for a 30-0 lead.
David Wells threw an 18-yard touchdown to Ian Porter with 8:28 left to make the score 37-0.
Isaiah Cashwell-Doe's 14-yard touchdown run with 5:33 left in the half gave the Pride a 44-0 lead and Hutra kicked a 33-yard field goal on the final play of the half for a 47-0 lead.
Joseph Cannizarro's 4-yard touchdown run made it 53-0 with 6:44 left in the third.
The Pride closed the scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run by Jamari Jenkins to make the score 60-0 with 11:31 left.
Freshman linebacker Trevor Dorris, making his first career start, led the Bears with 14 tackles, six solo while Logan Morris added 10 tackles for the Bears.
James Duren had 70 kick return yards while Jacob Wagner finished with 67 kick return yards for Coast Guard.
