SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- Karly Suppicich scored in double overtime to lift Springfield over Coast Guard women's soccer 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. Coast Guard drops to 2-7 on the season and 0-3 in the NEWMAC. While Springfield improves to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

In the 109th-minute of action, Madison Daly pushed the ball up the field in transition to Suppicich, who made a move to create space and rifled the game-winner into the back of the net, lifting Springfield to the 2-1 victory.

The Pride got on the board first in the fifth minute to take a quick 1-0 lead from Kellie Smith for her fifth goal of the season with a helper from Kaleigh Dale.

The Bears answered to tie the game 1-1 when sophomore Sydney Palinkas found junior Alexandra Murphy for her first goal of the season in the 31st minute.

After a scoreless second half, the Bears and the Pride went to overtime. Coast Guard had four shots in the two overtime periods but could not connect for a goal. Springfield has six shots in the two overtime periods and was able to take a 2-1 victory.

Springfield held a 33-13 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Coast Guard sophomore goalkeeper Hope Drake-Duval made five saves for the Bears in the first half and junior Sarah Schollenberger made nine saves in the second half and both overtimes. Springfield goalkeeper Amelia Harper made three saves for the Pride in the victory.

The Bears are back home in conference play on Wednesday, October 6 against Emerson at 6 PM.
