Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Coast Guard women's soccer defeated Wheaton 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at home in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on senior day. The Bears have now won three straight against the Lyons and improve 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the NEWMAC, while the Lyons drop to 7-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play.
Before the game, the Bears honored the six members of the class of 2022 (Kate Barnett, Lily Goebel, Jocelyn Highsmith, Abby McGuire, Brielle Pearce, and Katie Roys) in a senior day ceremony for their contributions to the Coast Guard women's soccer program.
The Bears got on the board first in the seventh minute with an own goal by the Lyons coming from a deflection from a Wheaton defender on a corner kick.
Coast Guard extended the lead 2-0 in the 31st minute when senior Brielle Pearce sent a volley over to junior Molly Huynh, who one-timed it in for her first goal of the season.
The third goal for the Bears came from another Wheaton own goal with a deflection off a defender's head, giving Coast Guard a 3-0 advantage in the 48th minute.
The Lyons scored their lone goal of the game from senior Jaime Rattenni with a long ball outside the box for her seventh goal of the season.
The Bears outshot Wheaton 13-11 and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Coast Guard sophomore goalkeeper Hope Drake-Duval made six saves in the victory. Wheaton sophomore goalkeeper Gabriela Marcus made four saves in the loss for the Lyons.
The Bears are back in action next Saturday, October 23 at home against MIT with a noon kickoff.
