NEW LONDON, Conn.-- No. 10 MIT had five different goal-scorers as they defeated Coast Guard women's soccer 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Bears drop to 6-9-1 overall and 4-3 in the NEWMAC, while MIT improves to 12-1-3 overall and undefeated at 6-0 in conference play.

Prior to today's game, the Bears recognized their six seniors for all of their accomplishments for Coast Guard women's soccer in their Senior Day ceremony.

MIT scored twice in the first half. Senior Montana Reilly gave the Engineers their first goal in the 10th minute to notch her fifth of the season. Classmate Sophia Struckman also scored her fifth goal of the season for MIT to give them a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

In the 51st minute, sophomore Karenna Groff found Stephanie Howe to put away her second goal of the season to give MIT a 3-0 advantage.

In the 73rd minute, senior Claire O'Callaghan connected with classmate Chessa Hoekstra to put away her first goal of the season.

Coast Guard got on the board in the 76th minute when junior Kat Retz brought the ball down to the endline and sent a cross to freshman Anna Carleton to bury her third goal of the season. This was the first goal that MIT has allowed against a NEWMAC opponent this season.

MIT scored the final goal of the game with four seconds remaining as Emily Berzolla sent her corner kick to the far post to find freshman Emma Rutherford for her second goal of the season to give MIT the 5-1 final.

MIT freshman goalkeeper made two saves for the Engineers and is now 4-0 on the season. Freshman Sarah Schollenberger made seven saves for the Bears and is now 6-7 on the season.

Coast Guard is back in action on Tuesday, October 22 at home against Emerson at 4:00 PM.
