NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Tom Hackett won at #1 singles and teamed with junior Jack Phillips to win at #1 doubles as Coast Guard blanked Emerson 9-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season finale as the Bears celebrated Senior Day in a match moved indoors due to rain.
Hackett won easily 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles while senior John Hu was 6-1, 6-1 winner at #2 singles. Sophomre Arthur Wicke registered a 6-1, 6-2 win at #3 singles and sophomore Max Holloway was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at #4 singles for the Bears, who improve to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC.
Hackett and Phillips won 8-4 at #1 doubles while senior Mike Melampy and sophomore Adam Bahney recorded a 8-0 win at #2 doubles.
Emerson forfeited #5 and #6 singles as well as #3 doubles.
The Bears honored the two seniors on the team, Hu and Melampy.
Coast Guard will be the third seed in the NEWMAC tournament and take on second-seeded Babson in the semifinals at Babson on May 6th.
