Melampy, Phillips Lead Bears Past Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. --  Mike Melampy and Jack Phillips posted a win at #3 doubles and both won their singles matches as Coast Guard won all six singles matches to beat Wheaton 7-2 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match.

Melampy and Phillips posted an 8-1 win in doubles action before the Lyons won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.

The Bears would win four of the six singles matches in straight sets with Melampy winning 6-0, 6-1 at #2, Arthur Wicke posting a 6-2, 6-2 win at #3 singles. Kyle Fager won 6-1, 6-2 at #4 singles and Chris Lansing was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at #6 singles.

Tom Hackett was a 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 winner at #1 singles while Phillips won 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 at #5 singles for Coast Guard.

The Bears improve to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference while Wheaton drops to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the NEWMAC.

Coast Guard is back in action at home on Tuesday against Nichols at 3:30.
