Bears Cruise Past Merchant Marine 8-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard won all six singles matches and two of three in doubles play to beat archrival Merchant Marine 8-1 and pick up another point in the Superintendent's Trophy standings.

Coast Guard improves to 3-0 on the season and the Bears now lead the Superintendent's Trophy race 7.5-3.5 over the Mariners with just four events left this year.

Tom Hackett (#1 singles), Arthur Wicke (#4 singles), Adam Bahney (#5 singles) and Jack Phillips (#6 singles) all won in straight sets for the Bears while John Hu (#2 singles) and Mike Melampy (#3 singles) each won in three sets.

Melampy and Phillips registered an 8-3 win at #2 doubles while Chris Lansing and Wicke were 8-1 winners at # 3 doubles for the Bears.

Coast Guard is back in action on Thursday at Conn. College at 3:30.
