Bears Beat Wheaton in NEWMAC Opener

NORTON, Mass. – Tom Hackett and Jack Phillips each won their singles matches and teamed up to win at #1 doubles leading Coast Guard to a 7-2 win over Wheaton in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.

Hackett and Phillips won 8-4 at #1 doubles while Mike Melampy and John Hu were 8-4 winners at #3 doubles for the Bears.

Hackett dropped the first set 7-5 at #1 singles before winning 7-6 (7-3), 10-3 to for the victory.

Adam Bahney was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at #3 singles, Phillips won 6-1, 6-4 at #4, Arthur Wicke registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 singles and Adrian Chau was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at #6 singles for Coast Guard.

The Bears improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Coast Guard is back in action on Sunday at Brandeis at 2:00.
