NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Babson outlasted Coast Guard 5-4 in marathon New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match which was moved indoors with five singles matches left.
Babson improves to 8-8 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Bears won just one of the three doubles matches as Ben Errington and Adam Bahney won 8-5 at #3 doubles.
The singles action saw three of the six matches go three sets.
Mike Melampy was a straight set winner, 6-3, 7-5 at #4 singles while John Hu was a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 winner at #2 singles and Bahney won 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 at #3 singles for the Bears.
The match was tied 4-4 and came down to #6 singles won by Babson.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when they will play a pair of road matches as the Bears will play at Emerson at 11:00 and at Tufts at 4:00.
