Bears Roll Past Merchant Marine in Spring Opener

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Coast Guard won five of six singles matches enroute to a 7-2 win over archrival Merchant Marine in the first match of the Spring semester.

Junior John Hu won at #2 singles 7-5, 7-6, junior Mike Melampy posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at #3 singles, freshman Adam Bahney was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at #4 singles, sophomore Jack Phillips won 6-4, 6-4 at #5 singles and freshman Arthur Wicke was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at #6 singles for the Bears.

Coast Guard's #2 doubles team of junior Ben Errington and Bahney won 8-5 while the Bears #3 doubles team of Melampy and Wicke were 9-7 winners.

The Bears improve to 3-1 on the season and are back in action on Sunday at Vassar at 1:00.
