Bears Fall in NEWMAC Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Second-seeded Babson swept all three doubles matches en route to a 5-1 win over third-seeded Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament.

The Bears close the season with a 10-7 record after advancing to the NEWMAC semifinals for the third straight season.
All three doubles matches were close. The Bears #1 doubles team of seniors Mark Guentert and Weston Fortna, who were unbeaten in NEWMAC play this season, dropped an 8-5 decision.

Both sophomore Mike Melampy and freshman Jack Phillips (#2 singles) and the #3 doubles team of sophomore Benson Errington and freshman Tom Hackett lost 9-7.

Sophomore John Hu got the Bears only win of the day with a 7-5, 6-0 win at #4 singles.

Hackett lost 6-3, 6-1 at #2 singles while senior Robert Renfrow was beaten 6-4, 6-0 at # 3 singles in his final collegiate match.
