BOSTON, Mass. - Emerson took two games from Coast Guard Friday afternoon winning game one in five innings, 12-1 and winning game two in extras, 12-11.

Game One: Emerson (10-23, 2-13) 12 Coast Guard (9-28, 2-13) 1 (5 innings)

The Lions used a nine run third inning to break open a close game and take game one by a final score of 12-1.

Sophomore Casey Cruzpino was 1-3 with a RBI while sophomore Hayden Short hit a double and a run scored. Freshman Emily Hogan, sophomore Emma Hvozdovich and junior Cherokee Strickland.

Emerson was led by freshman Kallista Leonardos who went 3-3 with a home run, three RBI's and two runs scored. Senior Amanda Horton hit a triple with two RBI's while sophomore Kodie Cash hit the Lion's other home run, knocked in two RBI's and two runs scored.

The Bears were on the board first in the top of the first inning as Cruzpino stepped to the plate with two runners on and hit a single that scored Short from second base.

The Lions, however, scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and took control of the game with nine runs in the bottom of the third for Emerson's second NEWMAC win of the season.

Senior Sarah Sorensen (5-20) allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits and walked one, lasting two and a third innings. Sophomore Emily Dow came in for a third of an inning of relief giving up four hits and six runs, none earned and struck out one. Freshman Mackenzie Everett pitched the final one and one third innings giving up two hits and striking out one.

Senior Samantha Corey (6-12) pitched all five innings for the Lions, allowing five hits and one run, striking out four and walking four.

Game Two: Emerson (11-23, 3-13) 12 Coast Guard (9-29, 2-14) 11 (8 innings)

The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take game two in extra innings to earn the sweep of the double header.

Senior Hannah Ingerson was 3-5 with a double and two runs scored. Short hit her seventh home run of the season going 3-5 with three RBI's and one run scored. Hogan had two hits with three runs scored and two stolen bases. With her two stolen bases, Hogan reaches 20 for the season moving her into a tie for third place in the conference.

Leonardos had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs while sophomore Jillian Gearin went 2-4 driving in a game high five runs. Leonardos is tied for the NEWMAC lead with nine home runs. 

Coast Guard was down two runs going into the fourth innings but used four runs over the next three innings to take a 10-8 lead going into the bottom of the final inning. The four run stretch was highlighted by junior Sara Cammuso's two RBI single in the top of the fifth plating freshman Allyson Holfinger and Ingerson.

Emerson managed to force the game into extra innings with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning tying the game at 10. 

Freshman Leah Harter registered her first collegiate RBI, grounding out to third base plating sophomore Emma Hvozdovich and giving the Bears an 11-10 lead.

The Lions, however, came back in the bottom of the eighth inning to score two runs on two RBI singles and took the second game 12-11.

Everett got the game two start pitching two and a third innings allowing six runs on four hits, striking out one and walking two. Dow (1-3) went the final five innings giving up six runs, five earned, striking out four and walking four. 

In game two, Corey lasted only two thirds of an inning giving up four runs, two earned, on four hits and one home run. Sophomore Casey Tsamis pitched the bulk of relief going four and third innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits. Cash (2-7) earned the win pitching the final three innings giving up one run, not earned, on one hit and walking one.

The Bears have their final double header of the season tomorrow, April 23rd as they host Smith for their final game of the season. First pitch is noon.
