Box Score 2 WILLIMANTIC, Conn. –Eastern Connecticut swept a non-conference doubleheader from Coast Guard winning the opener 13-7 and the nightcap 11-1 in five innings.
The Warriors improved to 9-13 overall while Coast Guard drops to 8-22 on the season.
GAME ONE – EASTERN CONN. 13, COAST GUARD 7
Eastern Connecticut scored five runs in the sixth en route to the 13-7 win.
The Warriors scored four times in the first inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Bears scored twice in the second on a two-run double by junior Sara Camusso and two more in the third on a two-run single by Allyson Holfinger to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Eastern led 8-6 before putting the game away with the five run sixth inning.
Sophomore Emma Hvozdovich was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI's to lead the Coast Guard offense
GAME TWO – EASTERN CONN. 11, COAST GUARD 1 (5 INNINGS)
Freshman Hayden Short hit a solo homer in the first, her team leading sixth of the season, but that would be the only hit the Bears would get off of Samantha Valentine, who went the distance and struck out four in the win.
The Warriors scored three runs in both the first and second innings and never looked back.
The Bears are back in action on Friday when they host MIT in a NEWMAC doubleheader at 3:00.
