Box Score 2 NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard dropped their second New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader of the season falling to Wellesley 15-3 and 11-5.
Game 1: Wellesley (7-6, 3-0) 15 Coast Guard (5-14, 0-3) 3
The Blue used seven runs in the top of the sixth to break open a 3-2 game on their way to an 15-3 victory.
Senior Hannah Ingerson was 2-3 with her sixth career homerun and a run scored. Freshman Emily Hogan went 1-4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored while sophomore Emma Hvozdovich was 2-4 with a double and a RBI.
Senior Carly Bresee went 4-4 with two RBI and three run scored for Wellesley while junior Ashtyn Coleman and junior Anna Pisac went a combined 5-10 with eight RBI's and five runs scored. Pisac hit her conference leading seventh homerun of the season.
After the Blue scored three runs in the top of the second the Bears answered with two runs on a RBI double by Hogan and a RBI single by Hvozdovich.
Neither team managed a run over the next three innings until Wellesley erupted for 12 runs in the final two innings to take a 15-3 victory in the first game of the twin bill.
Senior Sarah Sorensen (3-11) gave up 10 runs, six earned, on 13 hits and struck out two in 5.1 innings pitched. Freshman Mackenzie Everett came in relief to pitch 2/3 innings giving up five earned runs on five hits and walked one. Sophomore Emily Dow pitched the final inning allowing one hit and striking out one.
Sophomore Madeline Bianchi (6-3) went seven innings giving up three runs, all earned, on seven hits, striking out one and walking three.
Game 2: Wellesley (8-6, 4-0) 12 Coast Guard (5-15, 4-0) 5
Sophomore Emma Hvozdovich was 3-4 with two RBI's and a run scored but the Bears could not overcome an early six run deficit as the fell to Wellesley 12-5.
Freshman Hayden Short went 2-3 with a RBI and a run scored while freshman Emily Hogan was 1-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Casey Cruzpino was 1-3 with a RBI while freshman Allyson Holfinger went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Sophomore Amanda Manning went 2-4 for the Blue with three RBI's and two runs scored. Junior Ashtyn Coleman was 2-4 with two RBI's and one run scored while junior Anna Pisac had two RBI's. Junior Kendra Coleman went 2-3 with three runs scored.
The bears attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs to make the score 6-4. Hvozdovich hit a two run double while Short doubled a run across and Cruzpino knocked one in with a single down the right field line.
Two runs would be as close as Coast Guard would get as the Blue scored two more runs in the top of the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh finishing the 11-5 victory.
Senior Sarah Sorensen (3-11) took the loss pitching one inning and giving up four runs on four hits and walking two. Freshman Mackenzie Everett finished the game going six innings allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits and walking two.
Sophomore Julia Warner (2-2) pitched a complete game allowing five runs, four earned, on ten hits, striking out four and walking three.
Coast Guard is back in action tomorrow, April 2nd, when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for a doubleheader with WPI. First pitch is 12:00 pm.
