NEW LONDON, Conn. - Sophomore Dan Moreno won two events and was on a winning relay team for the Bears but Coast Guard fell in a tight meet with conference rival WPI, 151-147 Saturday afternoon.
Moreno won the 200 breaststroke (2:10.69), the 200 IM (1:57.75) and teamed up with junior Ross Garrett and sophomores Patrick Jackson and Chasse Sodemann to win the 200 yard medley relay (1:36.15).
Sophomore Taylor Rowe won the 1000 freestyle in 10:01.69 and was second in the 500 free in 4:51.87.
Senior Mike Franco was also a winner for Coast Guard taking first in the 500 free (4:50.41). He was also second in the 200 free (1:47.16).
Sodemann, on top of being a member of the winning relay, took first in the 100 breaststroke in 57.78. He was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.64) and was on the 400 freestyle relay team that took second with sophomore Adam Peterson, senior Elliot VanDeren and Garrett.
The final winner on the day for Coast Guard was Owen Gibson who took first in the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:59.77.
Other top finishers for the Bears were Jackson in the 100 backstroke taking second (54.74), freshman Joe Rodriguez, second in the 50 free (21.90), sophomore Will French, second in three meter diving (246.45 pts.) and freshman John Pompay second in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.79).
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday, December 3 when they travel to Wesleyan for the CT Cup.
