NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard won six of the seven matches that were completed in beating Clark 6-1 in the regular season finale to secure a first round bye and spot in the NEWMAC tournament semifinals.
The Bears improve to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC while Clark drops to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Coast Guard will be the third-seed and take on second-seeded MIT in the semifinals on Saturday, May 2nd at 3:00 at top-seeded Babson.
Robert Renfrow rallied to win at #1 singles 0-6, 7-6, 6-4, Mark Guentert was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at #2 singles, Weston Fortna, who dropped the first set 6-1 won 6-3, 6-2 and Michael Melampy won 6-4, 6-4 at #4 singles for the Bears.
In doubles action, Renfrow and Melampy won at #2 doubles 8-3 and John Hu and Benson Errington posted an 8-4 win.
