NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bears earned there fourth win of the season with a 8-1 decision over Roger Williams in nonconference action.
All three doubles team won for Coast Guard (4-3) with junior Weston Fortna and junior Mark Guetner defeating senior Ryan Swanson and junior Eric Laboissonniere 8-2. Junior Rob Renfrow and freshman Mike Melampy also earned an 8-2 win over junior Jonah Schwartz and freshman Grant Rosenberg. The final doubles team of freshman Benson Errington and freshman John Hu would beat senior Zack Bussiere and senior Kyle Bull 8-4.
Renfrow would win the first finals match for the Bears defeating Laboissonniere 6-0, 6-3. Guentnert would follow this up with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Bussiere. Coast Guard would win the next three singles matches with Fortna defeating Swanson 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, Melampy over Schwartz 6-4, 6-0, and Hu beating Bull 6-1, 6-4.
The Hawks (6-4) would earn their one win of the day in the final match as Errington defeated Rosenberg 6-2, 6-4.
"We came out strong today, all three doubles to start the day off," said head coach Mike Turdo. " Our number one Rob Renfrow set the tone for us with a decisive victory in the first match. It was a great all around team win today"
The Bears return to action on Saturday as the travel to Norton, Massachusetts for a match against Wheaton. It will start at 1:00 pm.
