Babson Holds Off Coast Guard 6-3

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Babson, the first place team in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), held off upset minded host Coast Guard by winning four of the six singles matches for a 6-3 win.

The Beavers remain unbeaten in the NEWMAC at 4-0 while improving to 9-3 overall while Coast Guard evens its record at 6-6 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Babson began the day by winning two of three doubles matches. The Bears #1 doubles team of Mark Guentert and Weston Fortna posted an 8-5 win.

In singles play, it was a pair of freshman registering wins for the Bears as Michael Melampy won 7-6, 4-6, 10-3 at #4 singles and John Hu dropped the first set 6-3 before winning 6-3, 7-5 at #5 singles for Coast Guard.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday at Emerson for a NEWMAC match at 1 p.m.
