HARTFORD, Conn. – Coast Guard suffered its first loss of the season dropping an 8-1 decision to Trinity.
Coast Guard drops to 3-1 overall on the season while it was Trinity's first dual match this year
Michael Melampy and Jack Phillips played great together at #2 doubles, serving well, hitting solid low ground strokes, and closing tight into the net. They traded service games with their opponents Scheffers and Rieflers, saving one match point to take it to a tiebreaker at 8-8. In the tiebreaker they executed their shots with pace and precision and won 7-2.
In #3 doubles, John Hu and Adrian Chau started off strong together breaking their opponent serve early in the set, but their opponents started hitting and getting more of their big first serves in and ended up winning 8-5.
In singles, Robert Renfrow traded shots at #2 singles and was making his opponent scramble to cover the court. He barely lost the first set 4-6, before losing the second. John Hu lost the first set, and rallied back winning the second set, but was not able to keep the momentum in the third. Benson Errington dropped the first set and started driving his ground strokes in the second, just losing 6-2, 6-4.
Coast Guard will close out the Fall portion of the schedule when the Bears host Nichols on Monday morning at 10 a.m.
