Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - Coast Guard could not complete the come back as they lost their first game of the season 2-1 to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference opponent Clark University.
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead when freshman Jackson Cohan-Smith's sent a cross into the Bears eighteen yard box. The service found sophomore Tim Rovnak who headed it past freshman goalkeeper Jake Sorenson for his first goal of the season 12:10 into the match.
Clark pushed their lead to two when they sent to the ball into the box from a corner kick in the 31st minute. Coast Guard was unable to clear it and the ball ended up at junior Kyle Russo's feet who slotted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal for his first goal of the season.
The Bears got a goal back when sophomore Patrick Hanrahan scored an unassisted goal in the 41st minute for his first goal of the season.
The second half saw no scoring but Coast Guard dominated the shot chart for the game outshooting the Cougars 18-8 but could not put many on frame as each team had four shots on goal.
Coach Chris Parson's commented on the teams shot dominance but lack of goals saying, "Once you gift a team a two goal lead, it takes a lot of energy to get back to an even score. We made too many bad desicions in and around their box to capitalize on our dominance. I give them (Clark) credit, they worked very hard to preserve their lead."
In his first career start Sorenson made two saves to drop the teams record to 8-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference. This is the first game this season that Coast Guard gave up more than one goal to any opponent.
Connor Maguire made three saves in net for the Cougars who raised their record to 4-6-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in the NEWMAC conference
The Bears return to action on October 1st when the travel across town to take on the Mitchell Mariners. Game time is 4:00 pm.
